Chapter 4

They followed Francis’ grandmother to a little house, obviously, that wasn’t a house, it was only a little room. Little Carol quietly took out her homework to do them. She never disturbed her mother and the guests when they’re talking.
“I have to take my medicine first.” Said Francis’ grandmother.
“You fell ill?” Asked Francis.
“Oh, no, I have a disease that I have to take medicine on time.” Said Francis’ grandmother.
“Oh I see.” Said Francis.
Francis’ grandmother took the medicine. Suddenly, she could not breath easily. She could not get enough oxygen. Francis and Benjamin tried to save her. However, none of them knew about what to do. Carol dialled 999 to call the ambulance to come immediately.
Carol’s mother couldn’t be saved in the way to the hospital. Carol was crying on the bench of the hospital while Francis and Benjamin decided what to do with Carol.
“Don’t you think that we should not left Carol alone here?” Asked Francis.
“I think we should take her home first.” Said Benjamin.
They brought Carol home. Carol was very unhappy. Her father died when she was born. She was only six years old now, her mother had also left her, so she was very sad. Francis and Benjamin could not think about any idea to cheer Carol up. Francis knew that her mother was like that. So Francis didn’t disturb little Carol and let her alone.

It was in the afternoon. Francis took some food to Carol.
“She must be very hungry.” Thought Francis.
Francis knocked the door. “Can I come in, Carol?” Asked Francis. There’s no reply. “Hello?” Asked Francis again. There’s still no reply. “Then I will come in.” Said Francis.
Francis opened the door. Carol was not here! The window was open. Carol must have climbed out the house.
“Benjamin, Benjamin! Carol was missing!” Francis quickly called Benjamin.
Benjamin ran to the room. “Oh, my god! Where has she been?” Asked Benjamin.
“I don’t know. I wanted to give some food to her but I found that she was missing.” Said Francis.
“She could not go very far, let’s find her.” Said Benjamin.
“OK.” Said Francis.

Benjamin and Francis had gone to find Carol for more than three hours, but they still could not find Carol.
“Maybe she has gone to see her mother.” Said Francis.
“Maybe. Let’s go to the hospital to find her.” Said Benjamin.
As they arrived the hospital, they found that Carol was asking the nurse about her mother. However, none of them answered Carol.
“Carol! Why didn’t you ask me to take you to see your mother?” Asked Francis. Carol didn’t reply her. She didn’t look at Francis.
“Carol, do you want to see your mother?” Asked Benjamin.
Carol nodded her hand.
“Now, we bring you to see your mother, but you should let us know when you come out next time, OK?” asked Benjamin.
Carol nodded her head again.
Benjamin and Francis brought Carol to see her mother. She didn’t cry this time, but she held her hands hard. Her mother always told her to work hard to have a better life, although she didn’t really know the meaning, she knew that this was her mother’s hope on her. Benjamin noticed about it.
“Are you alright?” He asked Carol.
Carol didn’t reply. She just starred at her mother’s dead body hardly. She didn’t want any more people die of poverty.
“Carol, it’s time to go now.” Said Francis.
Carol followed Benjamin and Francis. She would not run away anymore because she had promised Benjamin. She would work hard and wanted to be rich then she would help the poor to led a better life. She didn’t want to see anybody die anymore.
Suddenly, Francis felt sick.
“Ah! My head!” Francis put her hands on her head to stop the pain.
“Are you all right?” Asked Benjamin.
“My head is very painful!” Said Francis. Francis felt so painful that she lost her consciousness.
